During the interview for his upcoming game, "The Evil Within", Shinji Mikami speaks about the difficulties of developing a survival horror game:"Little has changed when it comes to horror games, but the players have become so accustomed to the mechanisms of horror and they will know what happens next, that is why it has become more difficult to scare players.
The scariest moments are when you encounter enemies that can not be killed with a gun. Even if you shoot them, they do not die so you must flee or use traps to get rid of it. This is fun but also terrifying."
He also says that on his next production..."Really, I do these games just because it's fun to scare people. Instead of introducing new ideas, I want to return to the source of survival horror. We're far and I want to explore new feelings of fear and relief after being overcome by the unique sensations in these games."
