Resident Evil Revelations 2 details and screenshot leaked...
It looks like Capcom is planning a sequel to the well-regarded 3DS game Resident Evil Revelations, if a leak on Xbox.com is to be believed.
The images you see here were found by French site Gamer in a Box on the official Xbox.com website, and as far as anyone can tell they’re legit.
Capcom is refusing to comment on the leaks, rather than just denying them outright, and the only peculiar aspect is that the game is referred to by its Japanese name of Biohazard. Although you’d think that would be something a faker would want to get right if they were really trying.
The other curious thing is that up until a few days ago there was no hint of a Revelations sequels, although all of a sudden other rumours have sprung up, claiming that the game features three returning characters: two female and one male.
Two of these apparently haven’t been seen in over a decade, which you’d initially assume means Barry Burton and Claire Redfield.
Apparently though they’re background characters that have not been major playable characters before, and aren’t from the movies or comics. No one springs to mind but perhaps a Resident Evil expert can suggest a few names.
The original Resident Evil Revelations was created as a 3DS exclusive, and was regarded as a good mix of the series’ survival horror roots and the more action-orientated modern games.
It was certainly vastly better than Resident Evil 6, and although the subsequent ports to home consoles lost some of the magic a follow-up isn’t the worst thing Capcom could be contemplating.
We are slightly surprised though, especially as the lack of evidence for an Xbox One version might imply the new game is last gen-only (and therefore relatively imminent).
Together with the announcement of a revamp of the Resident Evil remake it seems as if Capcom is merely treading water at the moment, and it may be some time before we see a bolder new direction for the franchise. [Via.]
